MU Ranks 10th in Egypt and 450th Globally in UI Green Metric Sustainable Universities Ranking

Minia University has achieved a new milestone, adding to its distinguished record by securing the 10th position among Egyptian and African universities in the 2024 UI Green Metric Sustainable Universities ranking.

Prof. Dr. Essam Farhat announced that Minia University claimed the 10th spot out of 36 Egyptian universities in the 2024 global UI Green Metric ranking, which classifies universities based on their commitment to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. The university also attained the 450th position worldwide out of 1477 universities that excel in sustainable development goals, ranking 375 globally in campus water sustainability, 403 in sustainable campus transportation, and 435 in energy efficiency within the campus.

The university president explained that the UI Green Metric ranking is a global assessment of green and sustainable universities launched in 2010. It aims to evaluate universities based on their environmental sustainability efforts across various criteria including energy, water, waste, transportation, education, and sustainability-related research.

Emphasizing that Minia University's participation in the UI Green Metric ranking enhances academic and research cooperation opportunities with universities worldwide, opening new horizons for development and innovation. It bolsters the university's reputation locally and internationally, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing the quality of life within the campus. The ranking encourages students and faculty members to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

It is worth mentioning that the UI Green Metric ranking is based on six main criteria: energy, climate change, waste management, optimal water usage, sustainable transportation, education and research, and infrastructure.
